The DuBois Farm is one of the largest pepper farms in the state of Florida. We have been growing peppers in the state of Florida for over 60 yrs. Green and Red Bell peppers are our main crop. |

Peppers were originally found in Mexico, Central America and northern South America. Pepper seeds were later carried to Spain in 1493 by Christopher Columbus and from there spread to other European and Asian countries. The name "Bell Pepper" was given to the plant by Christopher Columbus when he brought the plant back with him to Europe. |

The Bell pepper plant produces peppercorns which develop into fruits of different colors. There are many different varieties of Bell Pepper. The color can be green, red, yellow, orange and, more rarely, white, purple, blue, and brown, depending on when they are harvested and the specific cultivar. |

Green peppers are unripened peppers. The green peppers change color as they ripen. Unripened green peppers are not as sweet as the ripened ones. The taste of ripe peppers can also vary with growing conditions and post-harvest storage treatment. The sweetest are the ones which are allowed to ripen fully on the plant in full sunshine. |

The Bell Pepper is a tender, warm-season vegetable. Pepper plants grow best in warmer climates such as Florida and Mexico. Bell Peppers are sweet peppers and are very popular in the United States. They are eaten green or ripe and are used for salads, stuffing, soup, stews, relishes and pickling. |

Bell Peppers are a good source of vitamin A and C; the red ones are bursting with these two antioxidants. Antioxidants are a group of nutrients that neutralize free radicals in the body fluids reducing the risk of disease. |

Free radicals are naturally produced when the body uses oxygen. Unless they are neutralized, they cause cell damage, which may lead to health problems such as arthritis, heart disease and cancer. A single raw red pepper, can meet the daily requirements for two important antioxidants, vitamin A and C. |
